Arsenal

Arsenal was formed in 1886 when a group of factory workers at the Woolwich Arsenal Armament Factory formed a football team (hence their nickname of . Initially the club were called Dial Square but soon changed their name to Royal Arsenal. They remained an amateur side for a number of years before turning professional in 1891 when they changed their name to Woolwich Arsenal, joining the in 1893. Arsenal moved to their spiritual home at in 1913 where they played for the next 95 years.

In 1930 Arsenal won their first ever trophy, beating in the and the following season Arsenal were champions for the first time. Between 1933 and 1935 the Club won a hattrick of league titles (which has only been achieved by four teams in the top flight).

Arsenal were Champions in 1947/48 and 1952/53, FA Cup winners in 1950 and runners-up in 1952 but then had to wait until the 1969/70 season to life another trophy, beating 4-3 over the two legged Fairs Cup Final. The following season Arsenal went on to win the league and FA Cup ‘double’, beating Liverpool after extra time at .

In 1986 , a member of the 1971 ‘double’ winning team led Arsenal to their first ever League Cup triumph in 1986/87, beating Liverpool 2-1 in the Final and two years later Arsenal went on to win the .

At the start of the 1996/97 season became the Club’s first ever manager non national manager and in his first full season at Highbury, Wenger led Arsenal to take both the League and FA Cup ‘double’, for the second time in the Club’s history. Arsenal have gone on to win a raft of honours, winning five trophies in four seasons including the following a penalty shoot-out success over Manchester United.

The 2005/06 season saw Arsenal playing their last football at Highbury and for the 2006/07 season, Arsenal take up residency at the new 60,000 seater .
